A native Floridian, and resident of Gainesville since 2006, Karen joined the Government and Community Relations team in 2016 and has served in a variety of roles focusing on community impact, communications, advocacy, and outreach. Karen is also engaged with the GCR efforts in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., managing special projects, interdepartmental initiatives, and key stakeholder events that showcase the university’s positive impact throughout our local, state, and national communities.  Karen has strong professional ties to local nonprofit and service organizations through her previous experience at the Community Foundation of North Central Florida, and through her active involvement as a volunteer in our community.

As Director of Community Relations at the University of Florida, Karen plays a crucial role in connecting the community to campus and the campus to the community. She leads a portfolio of high-impact initiatives designed to strengthen UF’s relationships with local organizations, government entities, and community members.

In her role, Karen works closely with local elected and appointed officials to address issues of mutual concern, foster partnerships, and elevate UF’s presence in the region. Her work helps position the university as a responsive and trusted community partner.

Karen hosts the monthly Eye Opener series, connecting the community with UF experts on timely, relevant topics. She leads the Community Outreach and Engagement Network, bringing together campus partners to collaborate on public engagement efforts. Karen also oversees the UF Campaign for Charities and Gators Volunteer, two key initiatives that promote giving and service across the university.

Through strategic communications, meaningful programs, and intentional relationship-building, Karen ensures that UF’s community engagement efforts are visible, impactful, and aligned with both institutional goals and community priorities.
